King Charles Cavaliers Colors
The tan markings of a Blenheim puppy may seem disturbingly pale, but the color of a puppy's ear fringes is a more accurate predictor of adult coat color. A Blenheim spot or lozenge is very nice but does not contribute to the show potential of a puppy.
The black in Tricolors tends to invade the white with age, so the white blaze between the eyes needs to be fairly wide in a puppy, or it may close completely by adulthood. Black on the body also needs to be interspersed with a generous amount of white for the same reason. Tricolors must have rich-tan markings over eyes, inside ears, and on the cheeks and under tail.
Ticking sometimes does no appear until a puppy is four months or older. Some breeders believe ticking will not develop at all if the pads of the puppy's paws are pink or if the skin on its belly is clear.
White markings on Rubies and Black and Tans are often largely covered by the encroachments of other colors as the puppy matures, with only a little white on the chin and chest usually remaining. Black and Tans must have rich-tan markings inside the ears, over the eyes, and on the cheeks, chest, legs, and underside of tail.
